Reporting Add-on for PerformancePoint

PerformancePoint Management Reporter, released in early 2008, offers an alternative to the financial reporting features built into the PerformancePoint Server business performance and financial management application. Management Reporter is based on a discontinued Microsoft product called FRx but is not an upgrade for FRx customers, offering only a fraction of FRx’s features. Also, overlaps with PerformancePoint Server’s built-in financial reporting features make Management Reporter’s future uncertain.

Finance-Savvy Alternative to Existing Tools

Management Reporter is an additional reporting solution for PerformancePoint Server, Microsoft’s application for business performance management (including scorecards) and financial modeling and reporting.

The heart of Management Reporter is its Report Designer client application, which helps finance professionals design financial reports with minimal involvement from IT. Report Designer can output reports in several formats, including a native format that allows reports to be viewed and analyzed using a second Management Reporter application called Report Viewer; Excel 2003 or Excel 2007; or the Report Definition Language (RDL), an XML syntax used by SQL Server Reporting Services for specifying the content and layout of reports.
