The following documents some of the overall Windows Server 2012 requirements and dependencies, as well as the requirements and dependencies for some specific features. Organizations should review these requirements even if they do not intend to deploy Windows Server 2012 immediately, because they could influence near-term purchase plans. Readers are reminded to refer to the articles found in Resources for more details on specific features.

General

Windows Server 2012 estimated system requirements are as follows:

  • A 1.4GHz 64-bit processor (minimum)
  • 512MB of RAM (minimum)
  • 32GB of disk storage (minimum)
  • A DVD drive (optional)
  • 800 x 600 Super VGA (or higher).

Secure Boot

Three changes to the Windows boot process will make the process of starting Windows more secure, but whether a feature is available depends on the underlying firmware in the PC, the availability of signed drivers, and a Trusted Platform Module (TPM).
