Licensing Exchange On-Premises

The main Exchange Server 2010 licensing page can be found at www.microsoft.com/exchange/2010/en/us/licensing.aspx.

The Exchange Server 2010 Software License Terms (previously called End User License Agreement, or EULA) outlines customers’ usage rights and is downloadable via a form on www.microsoft.com/about/legal/useterms/default.aspx.

Microsoft’s quarterly Product Use Rights (PUR) document, which repeats and supplements the provisions of a product’s Software License Terms with additional rights and restrictions affecting volume licensing program customers, is available via a link on www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/product-licensing.aspx. The chapter “Microsoft Servers—Server/CAL” covers Exchange Server.

Rules governing the reassignment of server application and External Connector licenses between physical machines are detailed in the Nov. 2008 licensing brief “Application Server License Mobility,” which is available via a link on the Volume Licensing Briefs page at www.microsoft.com/licensing/resources/volbrief.mspx. Included in the brief is Microsoft’s definition of a data center and a qualifying server farm, which factors into reassignment rules.
