The 2019 versions of applications work with fewer versions of Windows Server than past versions did. Shown here are several server application versions and their announced eligibility for Microsoft product support on versions of Windows Server and SQL Server.

Checked indicates supported combinations of versions that Microsoft has announced. Some combinations will require an application or OS update (not listed) to be eligible for support.

Unchecked indicates combinations that are not supported or that have no announced plans for support. Some combinations might eventually be supported, such as Dynamics applications running on SQL Server 2017.

Planned combinations are not currently supported, but Microsoft plans support in the future.

Application versions earlier than those shown here are generally not supported on the latest Windows Server and SQL Server versions. For example, Exchange Server 2007 and SharePoint Server 2007 are not supported on Windows Server 2019.

Windows Server 2016 and 2019 entries are for the Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) version with Desktop Experience installed, which is required by most Microsoft server applications. However, Exchange Server 2019, SQL Server 2016, and SQL Server 2017 are supported on the minimal Server Core installation mode of Windows Server.
