The current version of SharePoint 2013 and SharePoint Online, the subscription-based version of the product available as a component of Microsoft’s upgraded Office 365 service (collectively, SharePoint 2013), are better at managing “eDiscovery” processes for protecting potential evidence in legal cases. They also deliver other improvements for enterprise content management—processes that manage documents and other digital information inside organizations. Good content management can help organizations comply with regulations, speed approval and publishing processes, and protect sensitive information. The new SharePoint products are getting closer to providing a single hub for managing content in Microsoft products, but organizations that adopt it will still need third-party products for some tasks.
