  • SharePoint Embedded offers file storage via API, without any UI.
  • The service allows ISVs and line-of-business development groups to build customized content repository solutions without starting from scratch.
  • Usage could be expensive, with billing based on storage, API access, and data egress.

SharePoint Embedded (formerly Syntex Repository Services) is a cloud-based, headless (API-only) document and file storage system, in preview, that can be built into any application. The service could be useful for application developers who need to build customized content repository solutions without starting from scratch, and tightly restrict UI access to files while still benefiting from Microsoft 365 content features such as eDiscovery. The service requires an Azure subscription and a Microsoft 365 tenancy and is billed pay-as-you-go.

Features

The SharePoint Embedded service allows developers to store and retrieve documents from an isolated SharePoint partition within the customer’s Microsoft 365 tenancy. The service is already used by some Microsoft products, such as Loop and Designer.
