Analyst ReportSharePoint Server 2019 Arrives On-Premises
- The latest version of SharePoint Server incorporates some, but not all, features of SharePoint Online.
- Some features will require additional subscriptions to Office 365 or other services to work properly.
- This version will be of most interest to customers who require an on-premises deployment for data governance reasons.
SharePoint Server 2019, released in Oct. 2018, is software for on-premises deployment that delivers a subset of features that have already been implemented in the Microsoft-hosted SharePoint Online service. Areas of improvement include file sharing, team collaboration, corporate portal hosting, enterprise search, content management, Web-based reporting, and other collaboration features.

Several site design elements first introduced in SharePoint Online are now available with SharePoint Server 2019:
New interfaces to the List and Library features for file and data sharing more closely match the look and feel of SharePoint Online modern team sites.
