Analyst ReportSharePoint Server 2019 Plans Revealed
SharePoint Server, the on-premises version of Microsoft’s team collaboration and content management software, will incorporate some new features from SharePoint Online into a 2019 version in 2018. However, SharePoint Server will continue to fall behind the full feature set of the Online version, and some features could require subscriptions to Office 365 to work properly. SharePoint Server 2019 will be of most interest to customers with specific data governance needs that require an on-premises deployment and that do not need the SharePoint Online features.
Hosted Development Leads On-Premises
SharePoint Server is a Windows Server—based server application that delivers file sharing, team collaboration, corporate portal hosting, enterprise search, content management, Web-based reporting, and other collaboration features. Early releases of SharePoint Online were based on SharePoint Server code; however, Microsoft now focuses on development of the hosted service and then migrates many of those features to SharePoint Server.
