More than three years after taking leadership of Windows development, Steven Sinofsky has been promoted to president of the Windows Division, joining the four other product group presidents at Microsoft. The promotion comes as development work ends on Windows 7, which is slated to launch in Oct. 2009, ahead of Microsoft’s promised deadline, and which has earned mostly positive reviews in its beta and release candidate stages. In addition, several vice presidents with long experience at Microsoft have moved into new roles or left the company.
