Skype for Business Online is a Microsoft-hosted unified communication service for organizations featuring presence status, instant messaging (IM), voice and video calls, and application sharing. Recent updates change the name from Lync Online and introduce a Windows desktop client based in part on the Skype consumer client. The roadmap includes connecting the service to public telephone networks, support for large broadcast meetings, and integration with Office 365 and other Microsoft products. Skype for Business Online should receive new features prior to their arrival on-premises and will also include features that require hybrid deployments for on-premises customers to access.

Skype for Business Online Overview

Skype for Business Online enables users to view and publish presence status (for example, available or away) and initiate communications sessions that include IM, voice, video, file sharing, and application and desktop sharing with other Skype and Skype for Business users.
