Analyst ReportSP1 Delivered for Office, SharePoint, and Other 2013 Applications
SP1 updates shipped for the Office 2013 suite (including the Lync client), SharePoint Server, Project, Visio, and related applications. Organizations will need to install SP1 on their version 2013 applications to qualify for Microsoft product support starting in Apr. 2015, and they will also need SP1 for support of the applications on Windows Server 2012 R2, Microsoft’s latest server OS. However, there are some known bugs in SP1, and it includes new code that could bring additional issues.
Exchange Server 2013 SP1 has also been released. (See “Exchange 2013 SP1 Adds Windows Server 2012 R2 Support, Features“.)

The SP1 wave includes updates for all of the following products:
- Office 2013 (including the Lync 2013 desktop application for Windows)

- Project Server 2013
- Visio 2013
- SharePoint Designer 2013

In general, each SP1 update includes security updates for the relevant version through Jan. 2014, and cumulative updates through Dec. 2013, and additional fixes that were not included in previous updates. (Microsoft provides a spreadsheet of changes in the SP1 updates that lists only the additional fixes.)
