Analyst ReportStream (Classic) Shutting Down by Apr. 2024
Stream (Classic), the previous iteration of Microsoft’s video streaming service, will be fully retired and disabled on Apr. 15, 2024. However, the service will become unavailable earlier unless administrators request a delay for their tenancy. Stream is included in Microsoft 365 subscription plans and provides services for viewing, sharing, and recording videos within an organization; it is also used for recording Teams meetings and supports live events for broadcasting video and audio to large audiences. Stream (on SharePoint), an updated version of Stream that entered general availability in Oct. 2022 and replaces Stream (Classic), stores videos using SharePoint Online and offers more integration with Microsoft 365 services. By default, uploads to Stream (Classic) will be disabled on May 15, 2023, but a delay until Sept. 15, 2023, is available. Similarly, Stream (Classic) will become unavailable on Oct. 15, 2023, but that date can be delayed until Apr. 15, 2024. A content migration tool is generally available, and video links and embed codes will redirect until Apr. 15, 2025. A migration overview and timeline for Stream (Classic) is available at https://learn.microsoft.com/stream/streamnew/stream-classic-to-new-migration-overview.
