Analyst ReportStream Video Available, Will Replace Office 365 Video
Microsoft Stream, a new video-hosting and -sharing service available for eligible Office 365 plans and as a stand-alone product, became generally available in July 2017. Organizations can use Stream to share prerecorded videos within their organizations, and it offers several features not present in Office 365 Video, which it will eventually replace in a managed transition. However, Stream currently lacks some Office 365 features used by customers with customized workflows and applications.
Stream Offers New Features
Stream offers several advantages over Office 365 Video, the existing Office 365 service for sharing recorded video inside organizations.
Stream includes support for Office 365 Groups: each Office 365 Group can have its own Stream video library, and videos can also be organized in channels separate from Groups. Stream also integrates with Office 365 services such as Teams, SharePoint, OneNote, and Yammer. Stream provides more granular permissions to grant or limit access to videos, supporting group or per-user permissions on individual videos. (For an illustration, see “Microsoft Stream Interface“.)
