Analyst ReportTeams Premium Enhances Meetings, for a Price
- Teams Premium, expected in early 2023, improves meetings and webinars and includes features originally planned for Advanced Communications.
- The package of capabilities is only available as a per-user add-on and is not included in any current Microsoft 365 suites.
- A public preview is expected no earlier than Dec. 2022, with no official pricing and licensing details until general availability.
Teams Premium, announced in Oct. 2022, is a Teams per-user add-on that includes several enhancements for meetings, webinars, and structured 1-1 meetings called Virtual Appointments. It will interest organizations that frequently use Teams for sales and consultation meetings, need in-meeting translation or enhanced meeting recordings and summaries, or have found Teams’ webinar feature set incomplete. However, Microsoft does not expect to deliver all announced capabilities at initial general availability. Premium highlights Microsoft’s desire to package advanced features in a Teams add-on, rather than in the core application, and could indicate that adoption is high enough now for Microsoft to look for new revenue opportunities with Teams.
