  • New webinar capabilities in Teams could allow organizations to replace third-party webinar hosting solutions for some scenarios.
  • Enhancements focus on managing presentations and attendee interactions, with significant updates planned for webinar registration and management.
  • Organizations that conduct commercial webinars will need additional tools or services for registration workflows and attendee follow-up.

Teams, Microsoft’s hosted platform for unified communication and collaboration, includes webinar capabilities for hosting online presentations. They include Web-based registration, clearly defined presenter and attendee roles, and import of registration data into Dynamics 365 Marketing. Recent and planned updates address several earlier shortfalls in hosting webinars, and could make Teams webinars a viable replacement for third-party webinar hosting services in some scenarios. However, organizations that host frequent customer-facing webinars as part of their business model will likely require the more extensive customization and attendee management capabilities of dedicated webinar solutions or additional add-on services.
