Language translation and interpretation capabilities are available from the hosted Microsoft Translator API service, which is part of Microsoft’s Azure-based Cognitive Services offering. Organizations can use the service for custom multilingual applications, and it underpins several Microsoft applications including Translator, Skype Translator, and other document and Web page translation utilities. The service is built using machine learning technology that has seen recent quality and performance improvements. The APIs and applications could help organizations drive multilingual meetings and presentations and translate text on resources such as blogs and forums, but usage-based fees are incurred.

Hosted Service Uses Machine Learning

Microsoft’s Translator API service is one of several that make up Cognitive Services, which is a set of Representational State Transfer (REST)-based APIs that allow developers to add intelligence to applications by leveraging Microsoft’s data stores and machine learning models. Other Cognitive Services APIs support capabilities such as image recognition, product recommendation, and advanced search.
