Analyst ReportVisual Studio 2022 Improves Performance and Productivity
- Visual Studio 2022, Microsoft’s flagship integrated development environment, became generally available in Nov. 2021.
- Enhancements include a 64-bit process for scalability, a hot reload feature to speed the development loop, and new capabilities for building Linux applications.
- A Long-Term Servicing Channel is now offered so development teams can maintain a stable environment with less frequent updates.
Visual Studio (VS) 2022 brings improvements over VS 2019, which has received approximately quarterly minor feature updates since its release in Apr. 2019.
VS Background
VS provides an integrated development environment (IDE) for designing, coding, debugging, and testing software. It can be used to create managed applications based on Microsoft’s .NET runtimes and languages, such as C#, and traditional, unmanaged C and C++ applications.
The IDE can also be used to build cross-platform Android and iOS mobile applications and C++ applications that run on Linux. VS includes extensive integration with Azure to help developers leverage the Microsoft-hosted cloud platform, and it works with application life-cycle management systems such as GitHub and Azure DevOps.
