Analyst ReportVisual Studio and .NET Framework Roadmap Update
New versions of Microsoft’s application runtime and developer tools, the .NET Framework and Visual Studio, will probably be released in the third quarter of 2015. The new versions (previously code-named .NET vNext and Visual Studio 14) will be called .NET 2015 and Visual Studio 2015. Updated previews became available in Nov. 2014, along with the general availability release of Visual Studio 2013 Update 4 and a new edition called Visual Studio Community 2013, which can be used for free by certain customers. Microsoft also announced plans to make some .NET Framework components open source, while adding support for Linux and Mac OS X.
.NET New Versions and Retirements
The .NET Framework will receive new versions, probably in the third quarter of 2015 when Windows 10 is expected to be released, and some existing versions of the framework will be retired in 2016.
.NET 2015 and .NET 4.6
The next major version of the .NET Framework, .NET 2015, is available as a preview. The client side of .NET 2015 is called .NET 4.6.
