- Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP) will expand from investigation to investigation and remediation.
- Defender ATP will support earlier versions of Windows, and third parties will add support for other OS platforms.
- Regardless of platform, the service will require a subscription license.
An update to Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (ATP), currently in private preview, will add remediation to the existing breach investigation capabilities. Windows Defender ATP support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 is also in preview. Third parties will be allowed to add Windows Defender ATP support for other platforms, such as Android, iOS, Linux, and macOS. Overall general availability dates for these new capabilities are unknown. Access to the hosted breach analysis service, regardless of platform, will require some form of subscription license, such as Windows 10 Enterprise E5.

Defender ATP is a Microsoft-hosted service that adds a post-breach layer of forensic or diagnostic protection to Windows 10 clients, helping to detect threats that have made it past other defenses and providing organizations with information to investigate and remedy breaches across multiple endpoints.
