Windows 10 Mobile became generally available in Nov. 2015, bringing the Windows 10 kernel to smartphones and offering an Enterprise edition that targets corporate-owned devices. The OS upgrades Windows Phone 8.1, which competes with Android and iOS OSs, but the platform has never gained significant market share. Windows 10 Mobile delivers user interface additions and changes, and the Enterprise edition offers features that help manage and secure Windows phone devices distributed to employees. However, the new OS currently only runs on recently released phone models built by Microsoft, and evaluations should consider quality issues with the latest builds.
Enterprise Edition Targets Corporate Phones
Windows 10 Mobile is offered in a standard and an Enterprise edition. The Enterprise edition is intended for corporate-owned devices that are distributed to employees, rather than personal devices that are also used for business applications. The Enterprise edition could be of interest to organizations that require high isolation between business and personal data and those where devices are shared by employees.
