Analyst ReportWindows 10 Roadmap Update
A Nov. 2015 Feature Upgrade delivers user interface and security improvements for Windows 10, but most organizations will wait to deploy the upgrade. Past and likely future Feature Upgrades for Windows 10 as of Nov. 13, 2015, are shown here.
The Nov. 2015 Feature Upgrade is the first Feature Upgrade for Windows 10. Feature Upgrades are releases of the entire OS that deliver new functionality as well as bug and security fixes. For example, the Nov. 2015 Feature Upgrade delivers several user interface refinements, synchronization of Edge browser state across Windows 10 devices, and a more secure encryption option (XTS-AES) for BitLocker, which can be set as the default through Group Policy. The Nov. 2015 upgrade has been sometimes referred to by the code name Threshold 2 (shown here as TH2). Threshold (shown here as TH) was the code name for the initial release milestone of Windows 10, which shipped to consumers July 29 and in volume licensing Aug. 1.
Microsoft intends to release Feature Upgrades roughly three times a year, with at least four months between each release. Customers receive the upgrades in three major release models, which differ on how long a customer can get Microsoft product support for a specific Windows 10 release.
