Analyst ReportWindows 10 Servicing and Support Revised Again
- The latest Windows 10 service and support policies make it even easier for organizations to deploy Windows 10 versions only once a year.
- Organizations deploying new Windows 10 versions less frequently could run into compatibility problems with other software and hosted services.
- Microsoft’s Windows 10 support policy is subject to further change, so organizations will have to continuously monitor the OS roadmap.
Despite modifying its servicing and support policies for Windows 10 numerous times to extend the support duration for each version, Microsoft has found it necessary to once again modify these policies.
Major and Minor Windows 10 Versions
The new support policy applies to Windows 10 Enterprise and Education only. (See the illustration “Windows Client OS Support Life Cycle“.) It has two major components.
Currently supported versions. Each version that is supported as of Sept. 2018 will be supported for a total of 30 months from the date of its general availability. This means that Windows 10 Enterprise and Education 1607, 1703, and 1709 will each get a total of 30 months of support.
