Windows 10 version 1703 privacy-related changes include new descriptions for user-controllable privacy settings, an updated Microsoft Privacy Statement, and more technical details about the levels of telemetry data collected. The changes partially address concerns that regulated organizations have about adopting Windows 10. However, it is still not clear when Windows 10 diagnostics collect personally identifiable information and under what circumstances Microsoft shares Windows 10 telemetry data with third parties. The changes likely fall short of the European Union’s (E.U.) new privacy requirements. Also, only specific editions of the OS support granular control of the collection of diagnostic data.

Better User Setting Descriptions and Privacy Statement

Users will have more control and better documentation of diagnostic data collected by the OS in Windows 10 version 1703, which was released in Apr. 2017 to computers on the consumer-oriented Monthly Channel servicing track. (The track was previously called Current Branch.)
