  • Organizations still on Windows 10 should enable all security settings and plan migration to Windows 11 prior to the Oct. 2025 support life-cycle date for Windows 10.
  • New devices should be acquired with Windows 11 preinstalled.
  • After migration to Windows 11, organizations will have to constantly evaluate randomly arriving OS and bundled application updates to ensure compatibility.

The latest Feature Update for Windows 11, version 22H2, became generally available on Sept. 22, 2022. It brings changes to security and management, and what Microsoft believes will be productivity improvements for users. This date marks the start of the 36-month support window for Enterprise and Education editions, and the start of the final three years of support for Windows 10. Windows 11 has more restrictive security processor requirements than Windows 10, and few new compelling business features, so organizations have little reason to rush to migrate from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but they need to ensure they are acquiring devices designed for Windows 11.
