A convenience rollup update for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 2008 R2 SP1, which includes almost all of the updates released by Microsoft between Feb. 2011 and Apr. 2016, was released in May 2016. The rollup update greatly reduces the number of hours required to install the fixes from Windows Update. Although not a service pack, the rollup makes it easier for an organization deploying new devices with these OSs to maintain a consistent support level. After using the rollup update, some fixes will still need to be installed and configured individually to ensure all necessary fixes are in place.

Convenience Only

The convenience rollup update is not a service pack and, therefore, does not have a fixed point in time when it must be installed in order to continue to qualify for support. Rather, the convenience rollup update makes it easier to integrate fixes for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 released since SP1 into a deployment image. The organization can apply most fixes into the image with a single install instead of having to install the OS with SP1 from an image and then add all the updates separately, which can take hours.
