Analyst ReportWindows and Office Deployment Tools Updated
Updates to free solution accelerators for deploying Windows and Office will help organizations to move to the latest versions of Microsoft software. The Mar. 2008 updates give organizations the latest tools for deployment planning and execution, lowering one barrier to widespread enterprise adoption of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. Because Microsoft has chosen to update both versions of its deployment tools, customers are not forced to change to the newer tool while working on a current deployment project.
The Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), released in fall 2007, is an update to the Business Desktop Deployment (BDD) Solution Accelerator, currently at BDD 2007. Unlike the earlier, desktop-focused accelerator, MDT can deploy OS and application images to either desktop computers (including laptops) or servers. Like BDD, MDT can run on and deploy either 32-bit or 64-bit software.
The Mar. 2008 update to MDT adds the following:
- Support for Windows Vista SP1
- Full support
