Analyst ReportWindows Management Framework 5 Previewed
A preview of the Windows Management Framework (WMF) 5.0 includes an updated version of PowerShell with cmdlets for finding and installing PowerShell modules and for managing network switches. PowerShell 5.0 also includes OneGet, which can be used to get and manage software installation packages from a community-based or private software repository. The new features will simplify creating and operating IT environments, particularly for small organizations, but OneGet may pose security risks since it allows users with administrative rights to easily download and install third-party packages from potentially untrusted sources. WMF 5.0 likely will be finalized before the next updates to Windows and Windows Server, which are expected in the second half of 2014.
PowerShell 5.0 Adds New Cmdlets
WMF includes Windows PowerShell, Windows PowerShell Integrated Script Environment (ISE), Windows PowerShell Web Services (Management OData IIS Extension), Windows Remote Management (WinRM), Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI), and the Server Manager WMI provider.
