Windows Server 2008 and an add-on for Vista SP1 will deliver updated management tools to help set up servers in secure configurations and provide better control over clients using Group Policy. The new tools will particularly benefit organizations hosting Web sites for other organizations, outsourcers who need to provision large numbers of similar servers, and organizations that configure Windows clients with login scripts. However, the planned tools change the interface for administering Windows Server, which may require some retraining.

Beyond Vista Improvements

The new management tools will ship in Windows Server 2008 and in the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT), a free add-on for Windows Vista SP1. The tools run on only these newer Windows versions, but they include remote-administration tools that can target computers running Windows versions back to Windows Server 2003 SP1 and Windows XP SP2.
