Analyst ReportWindows Point-in-Time Restore Is Windows, Yesterday
Windows Point-in-Time Restore is a new feature of Windows 11 that should help customers recover more rapidly from buggy updates or configuration errors.
- Windows Point-in-Time Restore lets customers revert an entire PC’s local state to a very recent point in time.
- The feature could be particularly useful to recover PCs in the event of a bad update or misconfigured software or driver.
- Because all data is only stored locally, and can only be restored locally, the feature doesn’t help customers when a PC needs to be swapped with another.
Point-in-Time Restore, a new feature for Windows 11 that is generally available as of June 2026, lets organizations quickly revert the entire local state of a PC to a recent point in time. It should be particularly useful when organizations need to revert multiple PCs after a failed update or misconfiguration, like what happened to many Windows PCs after the CrowdStrike-induced mass failure in 2024. An enhanced version of Point-in-Time Restore is available with Windows 365 Enterprise cloud PCs.
