Windows Server 2022, the next LTSC version of Windows Server, is available in preview and scheduled for general availability in late 2021.
New features and capabilities will focus on security, Azure interoperability, and Windows containers.
Customers invested in Windows Server containers or concerned about compatibility with custom applications should consider the preview.
Questions remain regarding how long this version will be supported, and what versions of other applications it will support.

The next Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release of Windows Server, Windows Server 2022, is in preview and planned for availability in late 2021. Features announced for the new version focus on security, interoperation with Azure services, and enhancements to Windows containers. However, new hardware will be required to take advantage of some new security features, and Microsoft has not stated how long this version will be supported, a key concern given shortened support life-cycles for many Microsoft products arriving during 2021.
