Analyst ReportWindows Thin PC Subscription Available
Windows Thin PC (WinTPC) is now available through three licensing options. WinTPC is a small-footprint, locked-down OS that enables existing Windows PCs to be repurposed as thin-client devices. It enables organizations to evaluate thin-client computing, which can offer security and management advantages, without purchasing dedicated thin-client terminals. Organizations license WinTPC as a device-based subscription and can purchase it through several types of subscriptions, including Software Assurance (SA), Virtual Desktop Access (VDA), and the Windows Intune PC management cloud service.
WinTPC Enables Thin-Client Tryouts
WinTPC provides a minimal OS that can run the Remote Desktop Connection client software, which enables a thin-client device to send input to and display output from a remote desktop that is hosted by a server in the data center. Thin clients have a number of potential advantages. Their configuration is easier to lock down to prevent malware and misconfiguration, and they also do not require local data storage, which helps enforce policy and ensure reliable backup. Their primary disadvantage is performance: they do not run applications locally, so users will see longer response times, particularly for graphic-intensive applications.
