Analyst ReportWindows Virtual Desktop Roadmap Update
- Windows Virtual Desktop offers a Microsoft-managed, Azure-hosted virtual desktop infrastructure.
- Recent updates integrate the service with Azure Resource Manager, which provides enhanced management and security capabilities.
- Other updates improve the quality of Teams calls in WVD and could make it easier to deploy and update applications in WVD host VMs.
- However, existing WVD deployments will have to be migrated or redeployed to take advantage of the new Azure Resource Manager capabilities.
Windows Virtual Desktop (WVD) provides a Microsoft-hosted managed service for hosting virtual desktops in Azure that is an alternative to Windows Server Remote Desktop Services (RDS), and it could interest customers looking to deploy virtual desktops or hosted applications in Azure. The WVD Spring Update, now generally available, integrates WVD with Azure Resource Manager (ARM) and the Azure portal, providing access to Azure security features and interoperation with Azure services like Monitor Log Analytics.
