Cross-platform development tool capabilities, new features and migration tools for Windows 10 Universal Windows Platform (UWP) applications, and improvements to Azure for Internet of Things and microservices solutions were showcased at Microsoft’s Build conference in Mar. 2016. The announced updates could help organizations streamline their toolsets, make UWP more attractive while easing its adoption, and expand the viability of deploying solutions on Azure. However, teams focusing exclusively on platforms such as Android, iOS, and Linux should consider the trade-offs of relying on Microsoft’s offerings for development.
