To-Do is a new Microsoft-hosted task management application, currently in preview, that is expected to retire Wunderlist in late 2017.

To-Do is based on the functionality in another Microsoft application, Wunderlist, that the company acquired in June 2015. Wunderlist is a popular task management application that helps users create, manage, and share task lists, and it synchronizes the lists between phones, tablets, and computers using an online service. Rather than integrating Wunderlist into Microsoft’s product offerings, the company used the acquired team to build To-Do, which is built on Microsoft technology, leverages Azure Machine Learning, and more readily fits into the Office 365 architecture.

To-Do currently has many, but not all, of the features from Wunderlist. For example, it currently lacks shared lists that are used for collaboration, the ability to comment on tasks and assign tasks to other users, and support for folders and subtasks to help users keep tasks organized. Also missing are file attachments and integration with popular third-party services, such as Evernote and iCloud Calendar, Gmail and Google Calendar, and Trello for automatic task creation and calendar synchronization.
