SidebarSQL Database Migration and Pricing Options
Customers who want to migrate existing SQL Server bases to Azure SQL Database can take advantage of several tools for migration and discounts on SQL Database service fees. Migrating existing databases to SQL Database is now more feasible, particularly because of the new Managed Instance deployment option, which offers security, management, and multiple-database configurations more like those on-premises.
Migration Options Increase
Several Azure services provide features to help migrate on-premises databases and applications to SQL Database:
Azure Database Migration Service is a Microsoft-hosted service that provides computing resources, orchestration features, documentation, and assessment and testing tools to guide customers through the process of migrating databases to Azure destinations. Recent updates introduce automation features that reduce manual efforts and support for Managed Instance deployments.
Database Migration Assistant, a tool for assessing SQL Server migration requirements, now includes Managed Instance as a destination and provides service tier and sizing recommendations, based on existing on-premises workload.
