Planning for an organizational adoption of Azure involves considerations and choices in several areas. Azure accounts and resources can be provisioned in minutes, but without thorough planning, organizations may experience ongoing difficulties with the processes and performance of their Azure-based solutions. Planning will help determine how Azure tasks and processes will be performed using various Azure services and tools, internal solutions, and third-party assistance.

Following is a discussion of the areas where careful planning is required to improve the chances of a successful, optimal Azure deployment. The priority given to each of these areas will vary across organizations, and some organizations will have additional areas to address beyond those discussed here.

Deployment Hierarchies

Azure deployments use two logical hierarchies to organize resources for management and usage by different administrators, teams, and applications within an organization. The hierarchies that are employed vary across customer types, and customers have flexibility to customize elements of the hierarchies to meet their needs.
