SharePoint Online Roadmap

SharePoint Online is a cloud service that provides team collaboration, corporate portal hosting, enterprise search, and content management. It has a robust customization engine for building unique solutions, and the service is used to provide back-end file storage and sharing for OneDrive for Business, Teams, Viva products, and Stream. SharePoint Online is included in enterprise-level Microsoft 365 plans and separate SharePoint Online plans. An on-premises product, SharePoint Server, offers many of the same features, and current versions can work in a hybrid deployment with SharePoint Online to share information.

Near Term (2025)

The SharePoint roadmap for 2025 shows a balance of updates across the product with new components for developers, important security features for administrators, and new Copilot capabilities that continue to promote Microsoft’s AI strategy. Overall, SharePoint remains a key part of Microsoft’s collaboration strategy, on its own and as part of a back-end platform that supports OneDrive, Teams, Loop, Stream, and others.
