SharePoint Server software is a Windows Server-based application that is used for customers who are dependent on an application or process that cannot be accomplished with SharePoint Online. The product delivers file sharing, team collaboration, corporate portal hosting, enterprise search, content management, and other collaboration features. SharePoint Server Subscription Edition (SPSE) is the current version and offers many of the features of SharePoint Online. The software is licensed for the server and all users accessing the server.

Recent Updates and Near Term (2026)

SharePoint Server Subscription Edition (SE) is the latest version and is offered as an evergreen, “versionless” product. SE has no end-of-support date, and customers must stay current with updates and maintain Software Assurance (SA).
