Azure Cache for Redis is an in-memory data caching and messaging broker service based on the Redis software. It stores copies of frequently used data from a main database into a memory cache on multiple servers, removing the need to continually query the main database to enable fast access and reduced latency.

Versions and Retirements

Redis 6.0 (open source and Enterprise) is supported in all Azure Cache for Redis tiers; support for version 4 was fully retired effective June 2023.

Redis Enterprise 7.2 is available in preview for Enterprise and Enterprise Flash tiers. Microsoft has not yet announced support for version 7 of the open source Redis software; only version 6 is supported for Basic, Standard, and Premium tiers.

Support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 and 1.1 on Azure Cache for Redis will end on Oct. 1, 2024.
