Configuration Manager supports on-premises management and updating of Windows client systems and their applications. While it can be used with servers, Microsoft is not investing in this scenario any longer.

Near-Term Plans (2025–2026)

Configuration Manager 2509

Configuration Manager 2509, the latest version of the client and server management application, reached general availability in Mar. 2025. This release contains no new features other than Windows 11 25H2 support for deployment and upgrades, as well as security fixes.

This version leaves support on May 12, 2027.

Configuration Manager 2503

Configuration Manager 2503, the latest version of the client and server management application, reached general availability in Mar. 2025. This release contains no new features but does include security fixes. 

This version leaves support on Sept. 30, 2026.

Configuration Manager 2409

Configuration Manager 2409, the previous version of the client and server management application, reached general availability in Dec. 2024. This version added support for Windows 11 24H2 and Windows Server 2025 and removed support for SQL Server 2014 and earlier. The update also added support for some additional Arm64 management features, and it also included security fixes.
