Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Server is Microsoft’s on-premises customer relationship management (CRM) product for management of sales and customer service activities. Previously called Dynamics CRM, the product was renamed Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement in June 2017, although the product name of Dynamics 365 Server persists.

Product: Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Server

Licensing: Dynamics 365 Server

Near and Long Term (2026 and Beyond)

The current version, 9.1, will likely be the last version, as Microsoft is expected to retire all on-premises options Jan. 2029. The company might provide small cumulative updates to address security issues and keep the product compatible with the latest Windows Server release, but customers should not expect a new on-premises version.

Customers have perpetual rights to remain on the server product indefinitely, but they should understand that finding support (internally, from Microsoft, or through third-party vendors) will become more problematic: IT personnel with a specialty in Dynamics 365 will protect their careers by focusing on cloud products.
