Fabric IQ is a preview Microsoft Fabric workload that adds shared business meaning and relationships to data available through OneLake. It combines semantic models, ontology, graph technology, and agents so that users and applications can work with business concepts instead of raw tables. The product is most promising for complex, cross-domain analysis and operational decisions. However, it requires substantial data-governance work, remains incomplete for production use, and has no announced general availability date.

Licensing: Fabric

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

Microsoft is assembling Fabric IQ from components with different release stages. Fabric Graph and Operations agent became generally available in June 2026, and Fabric Plan became generally available in July 2026. Ontology—the defining new item that creates shared entities, relationships, rules, and data bindings—remains in preview as of Aug. 2026, keeping the overall IQ workload in preview.
