Fabric IQ is a Microsoft Fabric workload that adds shared business meaning and relationships to data available through OneLake. It combines semantic models, ontology, graph technology, and agents so that users and applications can work with business concepts instead of raw tables. The product is most promising for complex, cross-domain analysis and operational decisions. The workload became generally available in June 2026, but the ontology item at its center remained in preview as of Oct. 2026.

Near-Term Updates and Roadmap (2026–2027)

Microsoft is assembling Fabric IQ from components with different release stages. Fabric Graph and Operations agent became generally available in June 2026, and Fabric Plan became generally available in July 2026. Ontology—the defining new item that creates shared entities, relationships, rules, and data bindings—remains in preview as of Sept. 2026. Microsoft announced Fabric IQ as GA in Sept. 2026; however, without the core ontology component being GA, the entire service should be considered a preview product.
