Fabric Overview Roadmap

Microsoft Fabric is a data and analytics cloud service that simplifies the deployment and use of other Microsoft data and analytics services. It combines them into a cohesive offering where developers can collaborate and share data but continue to work with the specialized tools they need. The structure of Fabric removes much of the complexity of deploying and paying for the separate services by providing an environment where the services are preconnected and share a common UI and security structure. It reduces complexity and cost, improves security and compliance, and speeds deployment compared to using the other services separately.

Taskflows is a new dev management component that will help standardize how dev teams track and control Fabric projects to help ensure that everyone is working on the right tasks in the right order. This type of tracking is especially important for projects that cross specialties, such as a project that requires data ingestion, data wrangling, machine learning, and reporting. The Taskflows feature provides a design canvas for visually creating projects and includes numerous industry-standard templates to help expedite its use. Taskflows does not provide full project management, although Microsoft may add more project management features in the future.
