Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat (Copilot Chat) is Microsoft’s AI-based productivity service for organizations included with M365 subscriptions. It provides an array of features including chat and image creation in the Web site and M365 Copilot app. Unlike the licensed M365 Copilot, it does not have access to work data, only Web content. Copilot Chat is available in Office applications and Microsoft 365 services like Teams. Copilot Chat can use agents grounded on Web data, but agents using work data require billing on a pay as you go basis.

Near Term (2026)

The M365 Copilot Chat roadmap for 2026 predominantly focuses on expanding the applications in which it is available and including basic versions of features from M365 Copilot. Since Copilot Chat is included with M365 subscriptions for no additional cost, Microsoft may be pushing down some features to increase adoption as a steppingstone to the full licensed version of M365 Copilot.
