Recent Updates and Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint updates in preview and recently released include:

  • Aggregated event support to minimize signal reporting activity size without affecting event data
  • Network Protection feature enabled by default on mobile devices
  • Defender support for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) 2.0.
  • Streamlined device connectivity, minimizing the number of URLs required for approval, speeding deployment.

Long Term (Beyond 2027)

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is a relatively mature service, which primarily receives updates to help customers strengthen the protection of systems, discover and respond to security incidents more rapidly, and improve manageability.
