Recent Updates and Near-Term Roadmap (2026–2027)

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint updates in preview and recently released include:

Aggregated event support to minimize signal reporting activity size without affecting event data

Network Protection feature enabled by default on mobile devices

Defender support for Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) 2.0.

Streamlined device connectivity, minimizing the number of URLs required for approval, speeding deployment.

Long Term (Beyond 2027)

Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is a relatively mature service, which primarily receives updates to help customers strengthen the protection of systems, discover and respond to security incidents more rapidly, and improve manageability.
