RoadmapMigrate
Azure Migrate is a service that helps organizations inventory, assess, and migrate VMs and SQL Server environments to Azure. The service also provides tools to migrate ASP.NET applications and Java Web apps to containers deployed on Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) or Azure App Service. Azure Migrate provides direct access to migration tools from Microsoft and ISVs and supports Hyper-V and VMware VMs, as well as physical servers and VMs on services like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
Service Overview
Azure Migrate can analyze virtualized environments hosted on-premises or in third-party clouds; discover VMs, databases, and applications those environments may host; determine their readiness for migration to Azure; and provide sizing and cost estimates for the VMs to be migrated.
The service provides integrated access to migration tools based on Azure Site Recovery and the Azure Database Migration Service, enabling customers to migrate VMs and databases directly through Azure Migrate using information gathered through discovery and assessments. An App Containerization Tool can identify ASP.NET Web applications and Java Web apps for migration to Azure App Service or AKS. Microsoft includes assessment and migration tools that support Windows- and Linux-based VMs managed by VMware vCenter Server version 8.0, 7.0, 6.7, 6.0, and 5.5, and Hyper-V VMs hosted on Windows Server 2022, 2019, 2016, and 2012 R2. (Windows Server 2012 is not supported.) Physical servers and VMs hosted on services like AWS and GCP are also supported, but these scenarios require additional steps.
