Office LTSC Roadmap

Office  Long Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) Standard, Professional Plus, and Mac are software suites that offer fewer features than Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise, (M365 Apps), but greater technical stability and better licensing rules for shared devices.

Near-Term Plans (2024 and 2025) 

Office LTSC 2024, generally available Oct. 1, 2024, includes the latest versions of Office Standard and Office Professional Plus for Windows, and Office LTSC 2024 for Mac.  (Project and Visio Standard and Professional 2024 versions are also generally available, with the same support life cycle as Office LTSC 2024.)

Although each of the applications has improvements, Office LTSC 2024 continues to trail behind the features of M365 Apps. Notably, it lacks any of the Copilot natural-language assistance of its subscription-based counterpart.

Organizations that decide to keep Office LTSC should plan to migrate to Office LTSC 2024. Office 2016 and 2019, the previous versions, leave support in Oct. 2025. Upgrading devices from Office 2016 or 2019 to Office LTSC 2021 on Windows 10 will not extend the support window on those devices, and moving to Windows 11 will gain only one additional year of support for Office LTSC 2021.
