Recent Updates and Near-Term Roadmap (2026-2027)

eDiscovery

Purview eDiscovery updates recently released or in preview during 2025 include:

• Ability to combine all eDiscovery metadata fields from search into a single reference article, including export from Purview
• Customers can add multiple data sources to a case by adding a list of SMTP addresses or URLs
• Purview APIs are now available for use with eDiscovery applications (using either a client secret or self-signed certificate for authentication.)

Audit

No significant Purview Audit capabilities were released during 2025.

Long Term (Beyond 2027)

As Microsoft deploys additional Copilots, other AI technology, and Purview data governance, the need to track and monitor their usage will grow, likely driving AI and data-specific enhancements in eDiscovery.
