System Center Timeline

System Center 2022, released in May 2022, is the latest version of System Center. This illustration shows support milestones for the System Center suite of software.

System Center 2016 will remain in Extended support until Jan. 2027. Organizations using those versions or older should plan replacements with System Center 2022, which has the longest remaining support life cycle. System Center 2019 leaves Mainstream support effective Apr. 2024, and will remain in Extended support until Apr. 2029. System Center 2022 will remain in Mainstream support until Apr. 2027.

New versions of System Center are commonly released not long after new versions of Windows Server become available. Windows Server 2025 is planned for the second half of 2024, making it likely that a System Center 2025 version will be released in late 2024 or early 2025.

From 2016 to Mar. 2019, System Center offered a Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) release model, which required Software Assurance and was slated to be updated with new features twice per year. With the release of System Center 2019 in Mar. 2019, Microsoft announced the discontinuation of the SAC release cadence for System Center, returning solely to a traditional release cadence of major versions every few years, offering five years of Mainstream support and five years of Extended support. New features and other servicing updates are periodically offered in the form of update rollups, which are not released on a set schedule. System Center 2019 UR5 was released in Apr. 2023, and System Center 2022 UR2 was released in Nov. 2023.
