RoadmapWeb PubSub Roadmap
The Azure Web PubSub service enables high-scale, real-time client-server application communication. It can ease the developer burden for building applications that use, for example, live dashboards, text chat, and tracking maps. Web PubSub has functional overlap with the Azure SignalR service.
Product: Azure Web PubSub
Near Term (2025–2026)
Recently announced enhancements in preview but not yet generally available include:
- Support for Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT), a standards-based messaging protocol widely used for IoT and other scenarios using low-bandwidth, high-latency, or unreliable networks.
- An extension for Visual Studio Code that helps developers with routine tasks such as viewing and managing Web PubSub resources.
Long Term (Beyond 2025)
Eventually, Microsoft is likely to resolve the overlap between Azure Web PubSub and SignalR, with Web PubSub the probable winner. At that point, some sort of migration tooling is likely.
